The original story of the little mermaid is that she must kill the prince in order to be human, and in the end, she loves him too much and kills herself instead.

Yep she didn’t die, she turned into sea foam. By doing so, she was able to keep her love pure by protecting the prince on his voyages by becoming the sea.
In Hungarian, “The Little Mermaid” is called ”Kiss Hableàny”, which literally translates to “Little Foamgirl.”
